London Fashion Week...

Truly inspiring week.

So I didn't get to go to any of the official catwalk shows, but there's always elle.com/ vogue.com to watch them online...

However, I did get to go to the LFWeekend at Sommerset House on Saturday and saw four collections on the catwalk; the first was "Swan Vesta" which was a mix of garments put together with the inspiration of the film "Black Swan" in mind, the second was the Spring/ Summer '11 collection from Bora Aksu, the third was another mix of pieces names "Lady Brights" which showed the new trend of block colours and contrast and lastly they showed one of my favourite designers Mark Fast and his Spring/ Summer collection.
I only changed the settings after the first couple of collections so please forgive the blurred effects...

If you have never been to London Fashion Weekend I highly recommend it as it is just such an amazing experience. The clothes that you can find at such great discounts is wowwwww. Par exemple... Dolce and Gabbana dress for around £300 reduced from the original price of £2500... So tempting, so tempting... With a matching chiffon blouse...
There are so many unique, new designers that you can find as well, for example I found a designer there who produced hair accessories that included pieces such as colourful feather headbands and bohemian style turbans in deep colours such as wine red and midnight blue. The name of the label was Pearl and Ivy...
Another thing that you can participate in at London Fashion Weekend is the various events put on by the sponsors. I had a make over by Elizabeth Arden and there was a Toni & Guy hair stylist and Vodaphone Screenings which were all available. However, they do all cost so if you were to go to one I would suggest saving up a bundle of money beforehand...
So that was the weekend, but as for the WEEK. Oh my lord. LOUISE GRAY- head over heals for her collection. Head over beautifully colourful heals!

The extravagance and courage of it all simply takes your breath away.

If i find the time, I'll write up my thoughts on the New York, Milan and Paris fashion weeks too!
But being incredibly lazy doesn't help...

How Vogue became my obsession.

We've got obsessions...Once upon a time my Dad came back from London and gave me a French magazine- he's like French obsessed- and it was Vogue Paris. I spent ages looking through each page and studying each outfit and each advert and attempting some of the articles... And from then on I've never stopped buying every issue! Unfortunately I only buy the British Vogue because I'm not sure I could subscribe to Vogue Paris from Britain... I could try it though? And so Vogue and I lived happily ever after! THE END.

Vogue has been published in so many countries and HELLO? why wouldn't it be? It's amazing.

And back to my Kate Moss craze. She has appeared on roughly 30 Vogue covers, which is practically 2 and a half years worth of issues, which is immense! Which brings me to how ironic it is that none of the Vogue covers above show her, but oh well... Moving on...

It is starred some of fashion's most iconic stars. Since Vogue New York began in December1892 it has been a massive star hotspot! From Paul Poiret (major love for the guy!) to Alexa Chung there have been celebrities, designers, editors of all sorts running down the hall of Vogue.

I admit, I get fluttery feelings every time I arrive home to find a new Vogue on the kitchen table... And extremely sad though this may be, when I received the March issue a couple of weeks ago I sat down with my coffee and biscuits in the kitchen by myself flicking through the gorgeous pages and I began to interview myself... When my brother walked in he really thought I was some crazed lunatic... I was pretending that I was 22 and I'd worked at Vogue as a fashion photographer/ features editor for two years and "I can [could] imagine the interview for the job like it was yesterday, and now I am [was] being interviewed again as to how I got here, it's all such a strange feeling". Yes... strange seeing as it's not real... 

Well, maybe one day...

You never know.

A Blizard in Burberry...

The Burberry Prorsum Menswear Autumn/ Winter collection happened yesterday and thanks to the beautiful George Craig's tweet with the link to watch online I was able to watch the amazing show. Sitting down with my hot chocolate and beautiful little magazine- covered notebook and watching the Burberry show, every so often catching a glimpse of George Craig in the front row- heaven!
I don't normally think much of the menswear collections because it tends to be less imaginative and less vibrant (not claiming this is the case for all designers) and I feel sorry for men if I'm being honest... When I sat down to watch this show, however, I tried to get into it and this has definitely been the one show that has brought me love for menswear collections and I'm sure I'll be following them more in the future.
There was a theme of dismal weather, spelling BRITISH through and through, and this continued throughout the show ending with a beautiful raincoat ending to sum it up which I'll talk about in a bit.
Firstly we started to see checks of colours such as browns, reds and black and as the show went on the colours did become more bright and bold and there were some gorgeous shades of tangerine orange which were shown- also becoming popular this Spring/ Summer for women, showing the links between menswear and women's wear. After this bold outburst, the tone dropped and we began to see a mixture of textures in mainly greys, for example I'm sure there were some lovely suede and PVC coats entering!
However, after the brilliant start it went a bit downhill for me... Yellow puffer jackets... Cropped puffer jackets... I physically wanted to die.
And then BOOM. If you thought aviator would be going back out of fashion this Winter, you are terribly wrong I'm afraid because Burberry most certainly brought it back in again. The fur trimmings were extremely beautiful and fur was definitely a theme throughout the catwalk. For example there was a beautifully classic tweed blazer with a fur trim that may seem tacky, but looked fantastic! It finished off the blazer in such an elegant, glamorous manner that makes you want to cry with happiness. Later on in the show, there was also dalmatian print fur to trim coats and I must confess that it all looked very stylish, no matter what people may think about animal prints being tacky...Whilst on the topic of fur, I must admit my hate for the stupid fur hats (that darling Christopher Bailey decided to plonk on top of the model's head, I have no idea what got into him) grew stronger and stronger...
Finally they rounded up the camels and blazer trends that have been followed up from last winter extremely well and even added a gorgeous crocodile clutch to the clean cut blazer outfit- men should definitely carry bags more, it's extremely sexy.
I actually thought the show had finished and I turned away and I suddenly heard rain pouring down... Which of course was my computer- the show hadn't actually finished... Duh. The models came in for their finale dressed in an outfit each cover with a transparent raincoat whilst it poured down on the catwalk. It was so dramatic and beautiful! Really summed the show up well. Loved it.

One of the first to start the short hair cut trend, releasing two Harry Potter films within a year, "starring" in Vogue December- and I cheesily say "starring" as the them was stars, having the photo shoot done by Mario Testino for the Vogue issue, everything about her is just beautiful...

These are the photos taken from the shoot in December and she looks incredible! She talks of how "For nine years I was contractually obliged not to cut my hair, not to tan. All the normal things girls do" so once she finished filming she went and got it all chopped! She's come so far! From being the baby faced Hermoine Granger to a fashion icon/ twiggy look- a- like!
So much love for her...
ps, I LOVE the Balmain sweater she's wearing in the first black/ white photo, it's so hard sometimes to find the right baggy jumper, just got to save up 54000 pennies and I'll be able to afford it... But me? Saving? No, by the time I've managed to save for anything, it's out of stock!

Fresh starts!

It may sound a tad cheesy, going on about the whole "It's a new year, I'm going to change myself for the better" thing when, truth be told, it is just the next day in your life with a special name "New Year's Day". However, I am not a someone who likes to miss a chance to start over and a date which reads 1.1.11 has got to be given some credit for being a great date to change your life.

There isn't anything major that springs to mind when I think of changing my life, apart from those small things like going to the gym more often and trying harder to balance social life with school work as to not get to bloody far behind in everything because I've become wrapped up in living in my own bubble, which someone recently told me I do... Living in a bubble... Bad or good? I mean, it gives me my opinions and an understanding of what I want in life. My bubble is me completely, but in life you cannot be just YOU by YOURSELF. Life is about sharing it with others and fulfilment. 

Right now you may be thinking "What the hell is she rambling on about? I thought she was meant to be writing a fashion blog?" And the answer to that my dear reader, is that EVERYTHING is to do with fashion. Absolutely everything. When you start a new year, a new year begins in fashion also- despite the fact most fashion employees like to see September as the start to the fashion year for obvious fashion week reasons- and when you're creating your new year resolutions fashion always pops to mind. "I want to really make a statement this year!" or "I'm going to try to save up for good quality pieces which aren't just any old bargain found on the floor of a River Island sale." or "I will try not to be such a sheep to the fashion industry and thrive in my own style..." etc. etc...

This year fashion will change immensely, just as it does every year. I mean, I was watching, in the very early hours of this morning, the performances from bands and solo artists from the early eighties and I'm proud to say that I el- oh- ve- ee eighties fashion so very much. The flares and the high waisted skirts and above all the BRIGHTNESS! My parents were cringing at the clothes as memories must have been flashing, but for someone who hasn't been alive through the eighties I love it! It's absolutely gorgeous and I don't understand why nothing like that is coming back into fashion, we're stuck with 2010 summer's nudes and pale floral patters and when you compare them to the eighties- hey! they're booooooring! I have loved the military styles throughout this year and have collected garments which are beautiful, but can we peeerrleeease just get over it? I want to see bright colours and patterns and something NEW! With my fingers crossed and a quick glance through January Vogue, Elle and Glamour I think that my wish might just come true in time for Summer!

So this ends my ramble about, well I'm not quite sure what it's been about, but have a lovely 2011 and try to keep to your resolutions! Personally, I've already broken three...
